Iowa Chapter ICES Day of Sharing

November 12, 2006

Iowa City, Iowa

I attended the Iowa Chapter ICES Day of Sharing at Iowa City on November 12th.  There were 21 attending the DOS.

I did the “George” border for my demo using pearls and building up the icing using 3 different tips to get a beveled look.  Pictured below is a cake showing the “George” border.

Other demos given during the day included the following:

Kathy Finholt showed how to cover a cake with fondant.  She also showed some of the most common mistakes made when first beginning to use fondant and how to correct them.

Julie Tupker showed us some very unique fondant borders.

Amber Freeman, Cookie Mom Cookies, showed us how she decorates her sugar cookies.  She told us she can bake and decorate 600 cookies in about 5 ˝ hours!

Julie Poeltler, Fountain of Flowers, demonstrated how to arrange flowers for cakes and how to fix problem flowers.

Patty Herkleman was the mystery demonstrator with a mystery demo.  She showed how to make a halter top out of a pair of men’s underwear.  Lots of laughing during this demo.

Kathy Finholt returned to the demo table to show us how to make a rose out of candy clay.

Everyone attending had an opportunity to learn something new.

We all enjoyed a delicious lunch of pork loin, party potatoes, overnight lettuce salad, carmel apple cake and fudge bars plus other tasty snacks during the day.

The next Iowa Day of Sharing is scheduled for April 15, 2007 in the Crystal Lake, Iowa area.
