LEOPARD PRINT CAKE & PURSE

The purse is made out of gold tinted fondant.  I cut an oval shape and folded it over to form the purse.  Using a needle tool, I made imprints around the edges on both sides to seal the edges.   I cut a small oval shape to form a closure flap for the purse.  I used the needle tool again to make imprints around the edge of the closure flap.

Next, using a leopard print stencil, I airbrushed the black markings on the purse.  Then I filled in the spaces with brown using the airbrush.

I rolled  fondant in the shape of a pearl for the button on the flap.  Using a mixture of super gold luster dust and Everclear, I painted the button, the edge of the closure flap and the sides of the purse gold to resemble the metal parts of the purse.

The sides of the cake were airbrushed in a similar way.  First, using the stencil, I airbrushed the black markings and then filled in the brown.

I call the border a “George” border because I’ve never seen anyone use a similar border.  I created it using tips 140, 129 and 14.  I will be showing how I do this border at the Wisconsin ICES DOS in March.  Hopefully, sometime soon, I will have someone who can take photos as I do a border to show exactly how I do it.
