I resided in Los Angeles for 25 years. I worked as an administrative assistant for Mutual Wholesale Liquor Inc., a wholesale beer, liquor and wine importer for 10 years. For 15 years I worked as an account executive at Carmichael International Service, a Customs House Broker in Los Angeles, where I retired April 2, 2004. I moved back to Tama, Iowa on April 15, 2004 and continued to do cake decorating from my home.
Summer and Fall 2017, Spring 2018 I studied voice under Nicholas Miguel at Grinnell College and also sang with the Grinnell Oratorio Society Chorus.
George took his first cake decorating class the summer of 1995 while living in Los Angeles and that fall took an advanced class in cake decorating. He baked and decorated his first wedding cake January 1996 for 200 guests at the Palos Verde Country Club and continued with cake decorating in the evenings while working full time.
January 1998 he took a gumpaste flower class with Linda Meeden followed by a class in rolled fondant. He attended his first ICES International Convention in 1999 and continued to attend other conventions to learn new techniques and become acquainted with new trends in cake decorating. George received the Mailbox News "Cake of the Month Award" November 1997 and was awarded the distinction of March 2006 Reader's Spotlight in Mailbox News after moving back to Iowa.
Photos of George's cakes continue to appear in the ICES Newsletter from time to time; George was invited to do a demo at the 2005 Missouri Weekend of Sharing in Kansas City in May and that fall he was a demonstrator at the Iowa Day of Sharing held in Dallas Center.
