CAKE OF THE MONTH – JULY 2005

This cake was for a bridal shower and the theme chosen was because the couple had met at a Jimmy Buffet concert. The hostess advised that parrot heads would be featured in the decorations to carry out the theme.
The large parrot was made using wafer paper and AmeriColor Gourmet Writer pens. The outline of the parrot was traced on wafer paper and then colored using AmeriColor Gourmet Writer pens. The background was airbrushed onto the cake and then the parrot was placed on the cake using clear piping gel.
The flowers and leaves were molded from tinted fondant (tylose added), dusted with various luster dust colors and then steamed. A few of the flowers used for fillers were Royal drop flowers.
The cake was Kahlua fudge with Bavarian cream filling and covered with white buttercream icing. Tip 22 borders completed the design.
