CAKE OF THE MONTH – MARCH 2007

HEART SHADOW BOX

This is a 9-inch heart cake mounted on a 12-inch foil-covered board.  I used the “George” borders.  The bottom border is accented with Royal blossom flowers and the top border is accented with white pearls.

Linda Shonk demonstrated how to make a heart shadow box at the Wisconsin Weekend of Sharing held on March 25-26 2006.  You can also make this into a candy box by adding sides and using the top heart for the lid.

A larger heart and a smaller heart are cut from gumpaste, dusted with super pearl dust and steamed.  Another smaller heart is cut from gumpaste which is about an inch or two thick and placed between the two larger hearts to create a space between them to give the effect of a shadow box.  I then placed a fondant molded lace heart dusted with super pearl dust on the top heart for decoration.
