(click cake, below, to see my mother)
Fondant covered cake with shell top borders and white pearl border inside.
Royal icing roses are bordered with royal icing lace pieces and pink pearls.
Pink pearls form the side swags with a pink silk blossom at each point.
The bottom border is pink and white silk/lace ribbon with white pearls on
the bottom accented with a pink silk bow.
This cake was for my mother’s 79th birthday (July 14th) whose favorite color
was pink. This was the first time, since taking cake decorating, I was going
to be home for her birthday and so I took with me what I thought would
travel well to decorate a cake for her. (This was before I had my gumpaste
classes).
To my surprise, my mother told me this was the first decorated birthday cake she
had ever had. She said someone always baked a cake when they had a family
birthday, but they were never decorated. I only wish I could have done a cake
for her birthday after I learned how to make gumpaste flowers.
